NEW DELHI – Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit on Monday said with Jammu and Kashmir being the core dispute, dialogue was the only way forward to resolve all the outstanding issues between Pakistan and India.
“If we really have to address our issues, there is no way out other than the dialogue. Sooner or later, Pakistan and India will have to come to the negotiating table,” High Commissioner Abdul Basit told an Indian TV channel.
About the chances of any bilateral meeting between Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the Indian side on the sidelines of the upcoming Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar, Abdul Basit said if Pakistan, in that respect, received a positive proposal from the Indian side, it would respond positively.
To a question about the current situation along the Line of Control, the Pakistani High Commissioner said India would have to understand that the resolution of core Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a must to move forward.
He said Pakistan had always desired and strived for a sustained, comprehensive and meaningful dialogue with India on all issues and without any pre-conditions.
Basit said peaceful, friendly and good neighbourly relations between Pakistan and India were also essential for peace and development in the region.
