KABUL – British security firm G4S announced on Thursday that five of its employees including a Brit were killed while 32 others were left injured in an attack on one of its compounds in Kabul.
The company, which provides security for British diplomats, said four Afghans were also killed in the attack a day earlier.
The casualties occurred when militants detonated a vehicle bomb outside the compound before trying to enter inside the facility.
“Five of the injured are in precarious condition,” managing director Charlie Burbridge said in a statement.
He continued that the firm was committed to its security role in support of the people of Afghanistan, vowing that such incidents will not prevent the vital work that the international community conducts from continuing.
Afghan interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish had disclosed that 10 Afghans were killed in the attack, however, police spokesman Abdul Basir Mujahid said authorities were still working to identify the nationalities of the victims.
The attack came hours after President Ashraf Ghani announced plans to constitute a team to broker a peace deal with the Taliban; Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
G4S is one of the world’s largest security groups and helps guard the area around the British embassy in Kabul.
G4S came under an attack in March when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives before reaching the entrance of the complex leaving two civilians dead.
