ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a review petition filed by the Pak-Turk International Cag Education Foundation (PTICEF) seeking review of apex court’s 2018 verdict about control of educational institutions, being run by the PTICEF, be handed to Turkiye Maarif Foundation.
A three-member bench of the court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard the case seeking review of order regarding handing over the management of Pak-Turk Schools to Turkiye Maarif Foundation.
During the course of proceedings, the counsel for the Pak-Turk schools administration said that the Turkish government had no role in the establishment of the schools as the Turkish population had generated the funds for the creation of the schools.
Upon this Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan remarked that 40 other countries had also shut these schools down, and that the PTICEF has been declared a terrorist organisation.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the Turkish government and supreme court had also declared the PTICEF to be a proscribed organisation and the Government of Pakistan stands with the Turkish government.
The lawyer for the Pak-Turk schools said that Malaysia had not shut these schools down.
Justice Azmat Saeed replied “Then you should go to Malaysia.”
He asked the counsel whether they want to change the school’s name and fool people again.
This way other banned outfits will also start opening up various organisations, he said and asked the counsel that he cannot defend a proscribed organisation in court.
The counsel said that the interior and foreign ministries of Pakistan had allowed this organisation to open up schools here.
Justice Ijazul Ehsan remarked that these same departments of the government then came to court and said that Fethullah Gulen’s organisations have turned into a terrorist outfit and that the organisation is being used for money laundering and funding terrorist outfits.
Later the apex court dismissed the review petition.

It is to mention that Advocate Sohail Sajid had filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court on December 13, 2018 and requested it to declare the PTICEF a terrorist outfit in the country.
The petitioner had also requested that the custody of Pak-Turk Schools be granted to Turkiye Maarif Foundation.
Announcing its verdict in the above mentioned case, a three-member bench headed by former chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had ordered the interior ministry to include the name of PTICEF in the first schedule to Section 11-B of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
