WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – United States Secretary of the State John Kerry requested Congress to approve an aid worth $3.4 billion for Afghanistan and Pakistan for the year 2015.
Kerry, during a briefing to the economic committee of the congress, told that this aid would be spend in education, rehabilitation and power sector of the terrorism hit neighboring countries. $1 billion would be spent in Pakistan to resolve the power crises, he added.
He stressed the committee to continue supporting Pakistan for a stable south Asian region. He went on to say that Pakistan is taking serious steps for the eradication of militancy since deadly attack on the school in Peshawar that killed 140 children in December 2014.
John Kerry told the committee that United States has established strong ties with India as well and the cooperation in defence and power sector would continue.
He also pleaded the members of the congress to grant $3.5 billion for fight against Islamic State (ISIS) and an additional aid of $3.1 billion for Israel.
