TAIPEI – In a bizarre incident in Taiwan capital, a bank clerk married the same woman four times and divorced her thrice in 37 days just to get extended paid leave.
The ingenious man took the idea from the country’s law where a person has the right to get work leave for 8 days when they get married.
The bank approved his 8-day leave for the first marriage on April 6 last year and he later divorced his wife once the leaves were over, and married her again the next day to ask for another paid leave, which according to him is according to law.
The man repeated the trick until he married four times and divorced three times. This way, the unnamed clerk managed to get paid leaves for a total of 32 days.
Later, the little plan of the Taiwanese genius failed as the bank figured out the cheat and refused to grant him extra paid leaves and only granted him paid leave only for 8 days for the first marriage.
The man then moved to Taipei City labour bureau to get what he is entitled to and accused the employer of breaking the law by not obeying Article 2 of the labour leave rules.
Following the probe, the labour bureau investigated the matter and fined the employer and fined him NT$20,000 last year in October.
The bank however argued that its employee’s malicious abuse of marriage paid leave was not a legitimate cause of leave under the labour leave rules.
