Samarawickrama powers Sri Lanka to bag maiden World Cup win

LUCKNOW (Web Desk) – Sadeera Samarawickrama showed impressive batting skills helping Sri Lanka to beat Netherlands by five wickets in the World Cup 2023 match at Lucknow stadium. 

The Lions suffered two early wickets of Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis, bringing them under pressure. However, Pathum Nissanka managed to held the nerves and smashed 54. 

After his dismissal, Dhananjaya de Silva removed for 30 runs while Charith Asalanka for 44 but Sadeera Samarawickrama kept the Lankans in command and ensured the victory. 

Earlier, feisty fifties from Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek helped Netherlands to a competitive total against Sri Lanka in Lucknow.

Earlier, the Netherlands bagged the toss and decided to bat first.

Sri Lanka entered today’s game as favorite as they never lost ODI match against the Netherlands.

Netherlands, in their last game, stunned everyone by outclassing South Africa by 38 runs. They batted first and scored 245 but Proteas were bundles at 207. The Netherlands so far have played 3 matches, winning 1 and losing 2.
