Sindh reports two more polio cases, tally in Pakistan surges to 39

KARACHI – Sindh has reported two more polio cases, taking the total number of cases in the province to 12 in ongoing year 2024 while tally in Pakistan has surged to 39.

The two newly confirmed polio cases in Sindh were reported from Sanghar and Mirpurkhas, both infected with the type one wild poliovirus, which is considered the most dangerous strain.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Sindh stated that a total of 12 polio cases have been reported in the province this year.

Among these, two cases each have been reported from Hyderabad, Kemari, and Jacobabad, while one case each has been reported from Shikarpur, Sajawal, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Karachi East, and Malir. So far, Karachi has reported four polio cases.

As part of the Pakistan Polio Program, a polio vaccination campaign will commence from October 28 to November 3, during which over 45 million children under the age of five across the country will be administered polio vaccination drops.
