Hours after Britain voted to leave EU, What is the EU? became the most searched question on Google in the country

LONDON (Web Desk) – People in the UK sought answers to some very basic questions about the European Union following the Brexit referendum, according to Google Trends data, which measures how popular recent queries are on the world’s most popular search engine.

The Brexit campaign was launched last year to push for the UK’s departure from the EU, which many in Britain see as undemocratic, bureaucratic inter-state body that has undermined the country’s sovereignty.

The most searched question on Google after the Brexit referendum was — “What does it mean to leave the EU?” But other questions that Britons commonly asked were rather embarrassingly rudimentary.

“What is the EU?” they asked Google. “Which countries are in the EU?”

The news of such questions trending on Google in Britain has created a storm, and many observers have questioned how whether the decision many voters took in favor of leaving the EU was an informed one.
