North Korea test-fires ballistic missile that can target US cities

PYONGYANG – North Korea has conducted the second test of an international ballistic missile (ICBM) that can what they claim target the U.S. mainlands.

According to state media, Pyongyang fired missile named Hwasong 14 from Jagang province on Friday following the orders of Leader Kim Jong Un to confirm the overall technological specifications of the weapon system.

The missile flew for 998 kilometres at a maximum altitude of 3724.9 km for 47 minutes and 12 seconds. It was its 12th test of the year.

Kim Jong Un said that the test “demonstrated the capability of making surprise launch of ICBM in any region and place anytime, and clearly proved that the whole U.S. mainland is in the firing range of the DPRK missiles.”

According to experts, the major US cities like Los Angeles, Denver and Chicago are in its range, while it could possibly target New York City and Boston.

After the missile test, South Korea and the U.S. carried out a joint military drill early on Saturday morning.

President Donald Trump also condemned the attack as saying, “Threatening the world, these weapons and tests further isolate North Korea, weaken its economy, and deprive its people.” The United States will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the American homeland and protect our allies in the region.”

He resolved, “The United States will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the American homeland and protect our allies in the region.”
