SC judge who disqualified Nawaz Sharif appreciates PML-N for implementing Panama case verdict

ISLAMABAD – Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who was part of the five-member bench that disqualified Nawaz Sharif as premier appreciated the ruling party for appointing a new chief executive in line with the top court’s verdict.

The appreciation came during an event held last week organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association’s Quetta chapter in the bar room. The comments did not make headlines as media was not invited, however, as many as three of the lawyers have now confirmed that Justice Khosa admired the government for implementing the Panama case verdict.

According to senior lawyer Munir Kakar, Justice Khosa appreciated the government for implementing the decision in the shape of an in-house change and smooth functioning of the democratic system, Express Tribune reported.

“Khosa went on to say that rule of law and supremacy of Constitution will be best in the national interest,” he claimed.

Senior lawyer, Kamran Murtaza was of the same opinion and said Justice Khosa in his speech on August 10 had expressed satisfaction that the incidents following the verdict were in accordance with the law and Constitution.

Another lawyer, Qulbi Hassan also confirmed the comments of Justice Khosa claiming that the judge observed everything regarding Sharif’s disqualification was done under the Constitution.

It bears mentioning that although a five-member bench of the top court unanimously ousted Nawaz Sharif from office on July 28, Justice Khosa was part of the bench that disqualified Nawaz Sharif in his dissenting note in April 20 verdict.

Moreover, the same judge referred to Mario Puzo’s famous ‘Godfather’ novel in his dissenting note while portraying the wheeling and dealing of Sharif family.
