X’Mas in Pakistan
With only a day left in the celebrations of joyous festival of Christmas, the Christian community in Pakistan, like other parts of the world, are busy in preparations to mark the occasion. Vividly decorated Christmas trees, the iconic red Santa Claus costumes, and sparkling lights, balls and garlands can be seen in several shops and malls across the major cities.
Christians make up one of the two largest (non-Muslim) religious minorities in Pakistan, along with Hindus. The total number of Christians in Pakistan was estimated at 2.5 million in 2005, or 1.6% of the population. Of these, approximately half are Roman Catholic and half Protestant.
