Daler Mehndi sentenced to prison for human trafficking, gets free on bail

PATIALA, INDIA – The Patiala court has convicted pop singer Daler Mehndi  charges of running an illegal immigration ring in 2003, thus sentencing him to prison for two years. Daler has sung many popular songs including “Tunak Tunak Tun”, “Bolo Ta Ra Ra” and “Saade Naal Rahoge Toh”.

According to reports, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher along with a few others have been accused for ending people abroad by disguising them as members of his troupe in 1998 and 1999. The complainants have also accused Daler of taking 1 crore INR from them and never returning the money after the deal matured.

Patiala Police filed two discharge petitions stating Daler Mehndi to be innocent in 2006, but the case for prosection was upheld against the singer by the court for there was ‘sufficient evidence against him on the judicial file and scope for further investigation’.
