Samsung Galaxy Note 7 just got certified with Oreo two years after discontinuation

SEOUL – The ill-starred Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which was discontinued in 2016 shortly after its launch due to multiple batteries explode cases, has now appeared on the website of Wi-Fi Alliance running Android 8.0 Oreo.

As no one is supposed to be using the Galaxy Note 7 officially, one has to wonder why the device was tested with Oreo.

Oreo-powered Samsung Galaxy Note FE has also received Wi-Fi certification, so it’s possible that Wi-Fi Alliance requires all variants of a device to be certified even if one of them has been officially discontinued.

Anyways, we don’t expect the Note7 Oreo update to roll out ever.

However, the Wi-Fi certification is good news for Galaxy Note FE users, who should expect the update to begin sooner than later.
