Pak team to feature in Asian Rugby Trophy

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan team will leave for Singapore on August 3 to feature in Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy.

According to Rugby Services Manager Syed Mozzam Ali Shah, a 12-member team will participate in the event. Other teams to feature in the championship include Thailand, UAE, Singapore, Iran, Jordan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, and Uzbekistan.

Mozzam said Pakistan was placed in group C along with Singapore, Bangladesh, Brunei and Laos. “All league matches will be played on August 4 and the final will be played on August 5,” he said.

Pakistan rugby team captain Khasif Khawaja said the players worked hard in the training camp. Head coach Shakeel Malik said the team would win the championship.

“Singapore and the UAE are two tough teams and them our main opponents in the event,” he said. Pakistan team includes Khasif Khwaja (captain), Ahmed Wasim Akram, Muhammad Shoaib Akbar, Mian Hamaza Huminudin, Khalid Hussain Bhatti, Muhammad Afzal, Daud Gill, Muhammad Nasir, Muhammad Waqas, Altaf Musadiq, Muhammad Haroon and Faisal Aslam. Officials comprise Shakeel Malik (head coach), Syed Mozzam Ali (manager) and Dr Mohsin (physio).
