LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has cleared the administrator of Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA) after a brief probe involving his appointment as head of the authority, say sources in the authority.
Prof Dr Faisal Masood, who was formally made the Director General of PHOTA last year, appeared before the anti-graft body on Thursday. The interrogation was part of a bigger probe, initiated after the Supreme Court ordered NAB to submit a report on the heads of 56 public companies, drawing hefty salaries.
Prof Masood, as vice chancellor of King Edward Medical University, from 2013 to 2017, also ran the authority with an additional charge of Administrator. But, according to sources in PHOTA, he did not receive any salary against his services as no government officer is paid for an additional duty.
The senior medic was appointed as the permanent Director General after he was shortlisted out of nine candidates in April 2017. He is yet to receive an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the premier anti-corruption body.

Since its inception in 2013, the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) has busted dozens of cases of illegal trade and transplantation of vital human organs.
Acting as the provincial regulator, PHOTA is responsible for authorising and supervising all donations and transplants across Punjab.
