LAHORE – Two Pakistani Squash players, Farhan Mehboob and Tayyab Aslam, suffered defeats in the semifinal of FMC International Men’s Squash Championship 2018 in Lahore.
In the first semifinal, Yousaf Soleman of Egypt beat Farhan Mehboob in straight sets by 12-10, 11-9 and 11-9.
Similarly, Malaysia’s Ivan Yuen thrashed Tayyab Aslam in a nail-biting game by 9-11, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-9 to qualify for the final.
Twenty-four players from England, Egypt, Malaysia, France, Hong Kong, Germany and host Pakistan are taking part in the tournament.
The championship kicked off at the Punjab Squash Complex on last Monday.
Earlier in quarter-finals played here on late Wednesday night, Pakistan’s Farhan Mehboob edged out beat Egyptian Mazan Gamal by 11/9, 11/8, 11/9 in 32 minutes, Tayyab Aslam of Pakistan beat Auguste Dussourd of France by 11/8, 11/9, 12/10 in 35 minutes and Ivan Yuen of Malaysia outpaced Israr Ahmad of Pakistan by 11/8, 11/6, 11/7 in 31 minutes.
Punjab Squash Association (PSA) President Dr Nadeem Mukhtar, Secretary Sheraz Saleem, Treasurer Tariq Siddique Malik, Vice President Tariq Farooq Rana, Tournament Referee Tahir Khanzada, a great number of squash lovers and players’ families witnessed the enthralling encounters.
