Pervaiz Khattak denies taking part in Islamabad lock down

ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak said categorically that he would not be a part of the ‘Islamabad Lockdown’ movement of PTI, stating that he was on his way to Islamabad only to meet his party leader.

Talking to geo News, Khattak stated that no decision to shut down the federal capital had yet been taken and that he was only on his way to Islamabad to meet his leader Imran Khan. He said that in democracy, everyone had the right to protest peacefully and further stated that in KP, any political party could register their protests freely.

“We were arriving in Islamabad unarmed. Couldn’t bear the fact that our province was being cut off from the rest of the country,” he said.

Multiple vehicles were set on fire by PTI workers and protesters in a caravan led by Khattak after confrontation between them and the Punjab police in Swabi. Section 144 has been imposed in Punjab which forbids more than five people from gathering together. Displaying weapons and removing barricades or blockades set up by police are also forbidden under this section.

Khattak had claimed yesterday during a public rally in Peshawar that Imran Khan had the right to shut down Islamabad since the country did not belong to only the corrupt rulers.

On the other hand, Imran Khan applauded and advised Khattak to retreat to Sawabi:
