KARACHI (Staff Report) – In an extraordinary development at the political scenario of Karachi, Muhajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) chief Afaq Ahmad has offered the rival political party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to join hands for the sake of Karachi’s Muhajir community.
“Either MQM should contact me or I am ready to visit the Nine-Zero to put an end to the decades-long differences between the two political parties,” Afaq said while talking to newsmen in Karachi.
He went on to say that there is no positive outcome of the rivalry between MQM-Haqiqi and MQM. The politics based on discussion, deliberation and talks is the only positive way forward, he added.
Responding to a question about his contact with MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Afaq said that he has contact with Altaf Hussain, however he is ready to sacrifice his ego for the betterment of Mohajirs.
The significant development comes just one month after former MQM leader Mustafa Kamal established his own political party named Pak Sarzameen Party. Several lawmakers of MQM and other parties have so far joined Kamal’s party. The party is considered a major threat to the political forces which largely depend on Mohajir vote bank in Karachi.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Afaq Ahmad was one of the key members of MQM, which was then named Muhajir Qaumi Movement, till 1989. He, however, parted his ways with MQM on ideological grounds and established Muahjir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi), while the original MQM was renamed as Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
