Indian police officer arrested for allegedly raping minor girl

NEW DELHI – An Indian policeman has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl, while he was drunk.

According to Indian media, the incident took place on Saturday night at Bhanwarka near Kemri town in Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh state when a drunk sub-inspector, Tejveer Singh, took the victim to his quarters inside the police post and allegedly raped her.

The colleagues raised the alarm after they found a minor girl naked in the quarters of the officer, while the local people were enraged over the incident and tried to attack a local police post.

Later, the police arrested the accused sub-inspector quelling the anger of protesters and sent her for a medical examination. A case has been registered against him.

A police officer said that it will be confirmed after the medical report whether the suspect had consumed alcohol or not.

The case of raping minors in no new India as 20,000 cases had been reported regarding sexual assault on minor only in 2015.
