ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched the second phase of its campaign to block illegal SIMs.
According to a PTA statement, SIMs associated with CNICs that expired before 2017 and haven’t been renewed have now been blocked.
To avoid SIM blockage, citizens must renew or update their CNICs.
In the first phase, the PTA blocked fake SIMs and those issued on canceled CNICs.
Since August 16, more than 69,000 illegal SIMs have been blocked based on NADRA data.
The PTA announced that in the third phase, SIMs registered in the names of deceased individuals will be blocked.
Consumers have been alerted through awareness messages before the suspension of their mobile SIMs.
The PTA said that fake SIMs had been used for illegal activities, including terrorism and financial fraud.
