WASHINGTON – Reacting to US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s remarks about Muslim-American military officer Humayun Khan’s mother Ghazala Khan, the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Muslim women to “tweet about who they are and how they speak out.”
The New York-based real estate tycoon had earlier said that Mrs Khan was not “allowed” to speak at the DNC event in Philadelphia, implying that only her husband was allowed to spoke because the couple was Muslim.
Responding to the council’s call, thousands of Muslim women around the world took to microblogging network Twitter and made it clear for the Republican nominee that Islam provided equal rights to the women.
The activists used hashtag #CanYouHearUsNow for the viral campaign which attracted Muslim women of all fields of life.

It is also worth mentioning here that Ghazala Khan, immediately after Trump’s statement about here, also penned an Op-Ed for The Washington Post saying: “Donald Trump said that maybe I wasn’t allowed to say anything. That is not true. My husband asked me if I wanted to speak, but I told him I could not. My religion teaches me that all human beings are equal in God’s eyes.”
