LAHORE – Normally, all forms of media are used by businessmen for advertising of their products or for obituaries, but this time a strange advertisement surfaced on a leading daily newspaper seeking apology from a sitting judge of Supreme Court and his family.
The ad was published by a spiritual leader Pir Muhammad Naqibur Rehman, father of Hassan Haseeb who along with his guards threatened a judge of Supreme Court Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and his family.
In an apology note published in Daily Express, Naqeebur Rehman, the custodian of the holy shrine of Eidgah Sharif in Rawalpindi states: “I am ashamed about what my son did with a respectable judge of Supreme Court, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood on Friday night. A FIR No 136 is registered at Kaleki Mandi police station in Hafizabad and my son is behind bars”.
He further stated that he and his son extended apology to the judge and his family, adding that he had paid Rs 500,000 to two welfare organisation each as compensation.
He also sought forgiveness from lawyers of Rawalpindi division over the incident.
History
On May 26, the spiritual leader, along with his guards allegedly harassed Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and his family when they were travelling Lahore to Islamabad on Motorway. The accused also damaged the judge’s vehicle.
Later, the judge called the motorway police’s helpline to lodge a complaint. A FIR was registered against them at Kaleki Mandi police station, and terrorism charges were also added.
Punjab Police have arrested six people, including Hassan Haseeb, after the FIR was lodged.
