LAHORE – The Punjab government has immediately imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital, imposing a ban on political gatherings and protests.
A spokesperson for home department, the provincial government has enforced Section 144 in Lahore for six days, under which all types of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests, and similar activities are prohibited in the city.
He said the decision has been taken to maintain law and order situation, and to protect properties, adding that the restrictions will be enforced from October 3 to 8.
The decision to implement Section 144 was made upon the recommendation of the district administration.
Due to security threats, any public gathering could become a soft target for terrorists, the spokesperson said.
The provincial government has also instructed for widespread publicity of the enforcement of Section 144 for public awareness.
The restrictions comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to hold protest against the government over proposed constitutional amendments tomorrow, October 4.
