ISLAMABAD – The government on Friday dismissed rumours about imposing the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The rumours are doing rounds on the internet that the government has decided to impose the governor’s rule after KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is leading the protesters to Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
According to media reports, the KP governor met the premier at the Prime Minister’s House, where Faisal Karim Kundi briefed him on the province’s security and law and order situation.
The governor expressed concern to the prime minister about the federal government’s lack of interest and seriousness towards the province, saying that the people of the province had been left at the mercy of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“The provincial government is spending funds received from the centre on protest politics against the federal government instead of using for the public. The centre should provide financial resources to the province, there should also be a mechanism to ensure the money is spent on the people,” said Kundi.
He urged the prime minister to initiate major projects in the province to provide relief to the people, stating that if the federal government supports them, it will foster closer ties between the people and the center.
Kundi assured the prime minister that he is ready to fulfill any responsibility assigned by the federal government.
On the other hand, following the meeting between the prime minister and the governor, rumors about imposing governor’s rule in the province circulated on social media.
However, the government clarified that the talks about imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are baseless and fabricated.
