US defence secretary nominee wants continuous cooperation with Pakistan

NEW YORK (Web Desk) – United Satates’ Defence Secretary Nominee Ashton Carter wants a continued US support for Pakistan in fight against terrorism and stability in South Asian region.
Appearing for his nomination hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington, he said that expansion in cooperation with Pakistan against terrorism is in the US interest. He said that we also share Pakistan’s strategic interest in improved relations with Afghanistan.
He said that the United States and Pakistan should continue to work to promote peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and improve regional security. If confirmed, Carter said that he will encourage communication between Pakistan and India, as these relations will continue to be vital for stability in the region.
