LAHORE (Web Desk) – World Teacher Day is being observed today (Monday) across the world with teachers, students, activists, and representatives of various local and international organisations expected to participate in various rallies, seminars and gatherings.
“Empowering teachers, building sustainable societies” is the World Teachers Day slogan for 2015.
The day highlights the fact that teachers must be empowered as a critical step towards quality education and sustainable societies.
World Teacher Day has been held annually on October 5 since 1994 with the aim to mobilise support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by the educators.
Like other countries, the Central Organisation of Teachers in Pakistan will organise a big rally in collaboration with civil society and other teachers’ organisations. It will also arrange a one-day seminar in the province of Sindh on ‘Empowering teachers-building sustainable societies’.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in his message, has said the role of teachers is important in character building of the society.
“Teaching is not merely a profession rather it is a service to the nation,” the prime minister said and added he salutes teachers whom he considered to be spiritual leaders.
The prime minister said that societies and nations always respect their teachers because their guidance and teaching help in shaping up of the destiny of the nation.
