LAHORE – The Punjab government has issued an order to abolish the policies related to Rule 17, which allows provision of a job to the spouse or child of a deceased government.
Reports said the provincial government has directed all departments to remove the Rule 17-A from the employment regulations concerning employees.
The Punjab Government Servants Appointment and Conditions of Service Rules 1974 have been amended, and the notification states that any reference to Rule 17-A will no longer be recognized.
A per the Rule 17-A, the government was bound to provide a job to either the spouse on one of the children in case of the death of a serving government employee.
With the abolishment of this rule, such provisions will no longer be possible.
