Senate Chairman refuses to accept MQM resignations

ISLAMABAD (Online) – Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has refused to accept the resignations of lawmakers belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

During the 120th session of Senate began in Islamabad yesterday, Rabbani gave the ruling on the resignations tendered by MQM senators and said the constitutional way should be adopted regarding the resignations. He said the resignations tendered as protest wouldn’t be accepted.

“Upon receiving the resignations, National Assembly Speaker and the Senate Chairman must confirm they are tendered voluntarily. It seems the resignations have been tendered in protest and in furtherance of a political agenda,” the Senate chairman said.

“Answers of several questions regarding the resignations of MQM lawmakers are still remain,” he added.

The MQM lawmakers from the lower house of the parliament and the Sindh Assembly had tendered their resignations last month.
