MUZAFFARABAD – Police on Monday confirmed the death of five coal miners, who were trapped in a coal mine near Muzaffarabad yesterday.
The rescue operation has been completed, the police said, adding that two other miners, who sustained injuries during the incident, have also been recovered. All the deceased workers belonged to Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On Sunday, as many as seven miners were trapped in a coal mine located in Seri Darra village after a part of the mine collapsed following a gas explosion
Two of them were rushed outside as they were near the mouth of tunnel at the time of the blast, while the others were 800 feet away from the entrance.
It took more than five hours for rescuers to reach some 700 feet due to which the chances of survival for those trapped under the debris dimmed considerably.
