PM Imran wishes Pakistani Hindus happy Diwali

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday sent Diwali or Deepavali greetings to all Pakistani Hindus who are celebrating the occasion.

The Prime Minister, in a tweet, expressed best wishes for the Hindu community.

The Hindu community residing in Pakistan and around the world is celebrating the occasion, which is also known as the festival of lights, with traditional zeal and fervour.

The event symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness and good over evil. According to the Hindu belief, it is observed in honour of deities Rama and Sita’s return to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile, and the destruction by Goddess Durga of a demon called Mahisha. Diwali also celebrates the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi.

The Hindu community celebrates the event by decorating houses with lamps called ‘diyas’.

Messages From Politicians On Diwali

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also greeted Hindu parliamentarians and the Hindu community.  He said Pakistan is a pluralistic country and enriched with cultural diversity.

NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri also conveyed his warm greetings on Diwali to his fellow Hindu members of in the lower house of the Parliament

Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has also felicitated the Hindu community, stating Diwali is a symbol of the triumph of good against evil.

Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari greeted the Hindus on the occasion of Diwali and called for strengthening interfaith harmony for promoting the cause of peace in the country and in the region. ‘

‘I wish to extend on my behalf and on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party heartiest greetings to the Hindus on the occasion of Deewali”, he said in his message.
“On this occasion we also reiterate our commitment to fight religious apartheid and promote interfaith harmony in the country and everywhere,” he added.
