Rangers detain MQM-London activists as they try to hoist party s flag

KARACHI – Rangers on Friday detained the activists of MQM-London as they tried to hoist their party flag and write slogans at the Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk formerly known as Mukka Chowk.

The situation turned tense as a large contingent of police and Rangers personnel were deployed near the Yadgar-e-Shuhuda to prevent workers of MQM-London from trying to reach the place.

The workers had assembled earlier during the day and held a Quran khawani ceremony for the departed. Afterwards, as a large number of workers started to advance towards the place, Rangers and police stopped them from doing so. Law enforcement agencies also took into custody three workers of MQM-London, who had tried to climb the Liaquat Ali Khan chowk monument and place an MQM flag on top f it.

The atmosphere at the venue was tensed since morning, as the two factions sat opposite each other to read Quran and recite Fateha.

A large number of police and Rangers had gathered at the venue.

The area has been closed for traffic, and adjacent areas are in a traffic mess
