Woman distracted by phone falls into basement

PLAINFIELD, USA – A woman was injured on Thursday when she fell over open basement access doors after being distracted by her cellphone.

The incident took place in Plainfield, New Jersey where the unnamed woman fell 6 feet (1.8 meters) into the opening.

Surveillance video captured the woman as she walked along Somerset street in Plainfield. At first she seems aware of her surroundings even glancing at a store as she walked by.

But seconds later, the woman got distracted when she appeared to be texting on her phone. Two passerby woman also looked in horror as the woman fell into the basement access doors.

The 67-year-old landed in the cellar of Acme Windows, where workers were repairing gas lines.
The woman, whose name was not released, was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. However, police said her injuries were not life-threatening.
