After being slammed on social media, Dove has apologized for the promotion of a product over Facebook (body wash) that came off as racist.
The ad consists of three GIFs showing Dove’s body wash. It shows a black woman peeling off a dark brown shirt and transforming into a white woman in a beige shirt. She then peels off her shirt to reveal another woman.

Dove, which is owned by Unilever, said, “An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully. We deeply regret the offense it caused.”

The company further issued the following statement on Sunday:
“This did not represent the diversity of real beauty which is something Dove is passionate about and is core to our beliefs, and it should not have happened. We apologize deeply and sincerely for the offense that it has caused and do not condone any activity or imagery that insults any audience.”
The offending ad has been removed from social media sites.
