Faisal Qureshi talks against showing excessive foreign content on local channels

KARACHI- United Producers Association (UPA) recently reached out to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take note of excessive foreign content running on local TV channels. As part of the initiative, a group of Pakistani celebs including Faysal Qureshi, Aijaz Aslam, Adnan Siddiqui, Wajahat Rauf and Samina Ahmed took to the Supreme Court on Saturday morning and filed an application.

Faisal Qureshi stated that“We are not demanding an all-out ban on Indian content,”“But PEMRA has this rule according to which they allow 10 percent foreign content (out of which 6 percent is Indian content) on local channels but there are a few channels that are running more than 50 percent foreign content which is basically Indian programs.”

The actor-host added that this has a huge impact on those associated with the drama industry as it affects their livelihood. “We are not against channels but the impact it is having on our local industry,” he continued. “Over 50,000 families are involved in the drama industry, including people working both on and off camera. Due to excessive Indian content being aired on our channels, our dramas are suffering and some of them have been put on hold. Channels get the rights of these foreign dramas in 20 percent of the amount required to produce a local drama.”

As per recent development, the Chief Justice has accepted the application against channels running excessive foreign content. Cheif Justice of Pakistan has ordered to take action regarding this matter and look into the matter.
