NEW YORK- Margot Kidder, best known for playing Lois Lane in Superman has passed away at the age of 69.
The late actress, who was battling a mental disorder for many years, was found dead at her home. The cause 0f her death is still unknown.
Kidder starred in the 1978 film Superman, along with three sequels. Over the years, she’s played in several roles on TV shows and in movies.
She struggled with bipolar disorder for many years, after being diagnosed with the condition after a manic episode in 1996, in which she was found in a disorientated state, having apparently been living outdoors and sheltering in bushes in Los Angeles for several days.
She later used her public profile to raise awareness about the condition and became an advocate for alternative medicine.
She is survived by her daughter Maggie, the daughter she had with her first husband, American novelist Thomas McGuane.
Kidder and McGuane divorced in 1976 after three years together; she later married The Sopranos actor John Heard in 1979, a marriage which lasted only six days.
Her third marriage was to the French director Philippe de Broca, from 1983-84.
