Television firsts: Popular Indian drama Sasural Simar Ka s finale turns heroine into fly

LAHORE (Web Desk) – In what is considered by many as a first in television history, popular Indian TV serial Sasural Simar Ka turned its heroine Sima into a house fly on its recently-aired finale.

The show, which first aired in 2011, according to its IMDb entry, is an Indian supernatural family drama about two sisters who fall in love with and marry two brothers, Siddhant and Prem, and live together as daughters-in-law in the Bharadwaj household.

Throughout the series, the two sisters have thwarted various supernatural forces in bringing an end to the Bhardwaj household.

The teaser for the dramatic episode ends with the fly saying, “Yeh mackhee aap ki Simar hai.”

In the much-discussed finale, lead character Simar decides to help save a fairy by finding a cure in the jungle in the middle of the night and ends up disturbing a guru who has been meditating for about 5,000 years.

Simar is then transformed into a fly by the guru, as punishment, and must return home to her family as a mere house fly.

The episode had Twitter abuzz with reactions expressing shock, disbelief, and in some cases, anger at the show’s creators.

Let’s hope the show doesn’t decide on introducing a product placement for Mortein in the next season.
