LAHORE- Raza Mehmood Khan has returned to his Lahore home after being declared a missing person for 7 months.
Khan was a member of the Aghaz-e-Dosti (Initiation of Friendship) organization for the betterment of relations between Pakistan, and India had gone missing in December. His disappearance caused a stir on social media and activist circles, raising concerns about the fate of those who challenge the status quo. #FindRaza had been trending on Twitter and his distressed family members had reported the abduction to the police.
Rashid Wani, personal secretary to the president of the Commission of Enquiry on Enforced Disappearances has confirmed Raza’s return in good health. Raza is back in his home in Model Town Lahore but refusing to talk to the media due to security concerns.
Raza’s enforced disappearance is part of a larger pattern in Pakistan where many the likes of Raza are reported missing. Amnesty International has on several occasions taken notice of how frequently reports of missing persons surface from Pakistan.
