ADELAIDE (Web Desk) – Australia beat Pakistan by six wickets in the World Cup quarter-final at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Australia’s SD Smith and Watson scored 65 and 64 runs respectively whereas Maxwell also raised 44 aggressive runs off 29 balls only. The team chased target with 97 balls remaining.
Wahab Riaz was the most successful Pakistani bowler who picked 2 wickets against 55 runs. Ehsan Adil and Sohail Khan ousted one batsman each.
Pakistan, while batting first, set a target of 214 when the whole team returned to Pavilion in 50th over of the inning.
Misbah-ul-Haq scored 34, Haris Sohail 41, Sohaib Maqsood 29, and Shahid Afridi 23.
Josh Hazelwood took 4 wickets for just 35 runs in 10 overs, while Mitchell Stark and Glen Maxwell took 2 wickets each.
Earlier, Pakistani Captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and chose to bat first. However, no player from this side could manage reaching half century.
Australia will now Take on defending champions India in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground next Thursday.
Australia made one change from their last pool match against Scotland, bringing in fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in place of fellow paceman Pat Cummins on a hard, bouncy pitch.
Pakistan retained the same team that beat Ireland, once again ignoring leg-spinner Yasir Shah and veteran batsman Younis Khan.
