ISLAMABAD – Second Lt. Rana Usman Liaquat was allegedly kidnapped by one of his friends and shot dead and then his body was thrown into a canal.
According to reports, family members said Usman, who recently passed out with 144 PMA L/C, went missing in his hometown, Kallur Kot, in Bhakkar District on October 17.
A case was lodged with the local police on the complaint of his father. During the investigation, Muhammad Tasawar, a mutual friend of Hamza Liaqat, younger brother of Usman, confessed to killing Usman on Oct 17.
Reports say the suspect shot Usman in the head near Thal Canal and then threw his body into the canal. His body has not been retrieved from the canal so far.
The deceased, who recently passed out from the Pakistan Military Academy, was supposed to report to his unit on October 21.
Family and investigation officers believe the killing is a hate crime or result of a years-long grudge. Further investigation is under way.
