NEW DELHI – A Sikh Indian Soldier has committed suicide, saying cannot fire towards Pakistan, the land of Baba Guru Nanak.
“The soldier wrote in a suicide note, “Pakistan is the resting place of Guru Nanak and I can’t fire towards it”, reported Indian media.
Guru Nanak is the first Guru of Sikhs and he is the founder of this religion. His tomb is in Pakistan where yearly Sikh pilgrimage comes from all around the world.
The soldier was of the view that he cannot play his role in the fight against Pakistan.
In a video message, Indian Sikhs have said that their community has more freedom in Pakistan as they are called and accepted as ‘Sikhs’.
However, Indian constitution label them as ‘Hindus’ and force them to accept the Hindu religion.
This incident of suicide raised the number of such deaths among Indian troops and police personnel to 360 since January 2007.
