ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Saturday strongly condemned the killing of Javed Mir, a college student in Badgam district, and illegal detention of Hurriyat leadership by the Indian occupation forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Nafees Zakaria, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his tweets on his official account, said Hurriyat leaders including Geelani, Mirwaiz and Asiya Andrabi, a woman leader, had been under the illegal detention which was highly deplorable.
“We deplore Indian forces torturous treatment of Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, reportedly in critical condition in ICU,” he added.
Conveying the heartfelt condolences to the family of Javed Mir 22, Nafees said he was unarmed and a sole breadwinner of his family.
The spokesperson condemned Indian occupation forces’ genocide, crimes against humanity and blatant violations of human rights in IOK.
More than 150 people had been martyred, hundreds blinded by pellet guns and thousands injured in IoK since July 8, he said and demanded an end to such atrocities.
Later in a PTV programme, he said Pakistan had a principled stance over IoK. The UN resolutions should be implemented and the Kashmiris be given the choice to decide their own fate.
About the Line of Control violations, he said India had always created such situation with certain objectives. There had been tremendous pressure over its atrocities in IoK and it was creating such situation to divert world’s attention from the grave situation in the occupied valley.
About regional situation, Nafees said the region was gifted with abundant energy resources, human capital and investment opportunities and the world was taking a keen interest in the region.
He questioned the Indian claims of huge investment by saying how could it be possible in a country where about 600 to 700 million people were living in abject poverty.
India was also using Afghan soil to destabilise Pakistan, he said. He, however, added that Pakistan enjoyed deep and traditional ties with Afghanistan and its people.
To a query, he replied that Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India gas pipeline (TAPI), Central Asia and South Asia (CASA 1000) power project and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were the major energy and infrastructure projects which would change face of the whole region.—APP
