LAHORE – Senior journalist, analyst Arif Nizami on Monday claimed that up to 70 percent deal has been processed to allow former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to live in London.
While talking in a private news channel show, the veteran journalist said that Qatar may be able to broker a deal between the government and former premier leading to his release, adding that Qatar was previously involved in securing Nawaz’s release when former military dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf arrested Nawaz following the 1999 coup and he was facing helicopter case, embezzlement and other corruption charges.
Arif Nizami claimed that some sources have told him that another deal on Nawaz is being processed as Emir of Qatar, during his visit to Pakistan, has announced $3 billion worth of new investments in Pakistan, in the form of deposits and direct investments, he said that Qatar may invest another $12 billion later on.

He said that Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is an old friend of Pakistan, adding that Qatar has played a pivotal role whenever there is any deal or release. When Musharraf came into power and detained Sharif, the emir of Qatar was involved to initiate the process for his release, he said.
He claimed that under the deal, Nawaz will be allowed to pay the fine to secure his release so that he and his daughter can live in England, while Shehbaz and Hamza will stay here to run the party affairs and face cases levelled against them.
Although Prime Minister Imran Khan has vowed to give no amnesty to Nawaz, he said by adding that there have been many instances where the premier has taken U-turns and did not keep his promises, he said. The veteran analyst was of the view that it’s quite possible that Prime Minister Imran Khan may release Nawaz in the greater national interest.
