ISLAMABAD – A comprehensive plan is underway to upgrade 44 regional offices of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in order to provide best possible educational services to its 1.3 million students across the country.
This was stated by the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui while addressing a laptops’ distribution ceremony. The laptops were handed over to the students of Kasur region. In all, 2500 laptops were distributed among the University’s students from parts of the country, under the Prime Minister’s youth scheme.
The VC said all available financial, technical and human resources will be utilised for providing quality education at the doorstep of the people. He apprised the participants about the University’s achievements in the last three years, stating that they mainly focused on promoting reach culture.
In a short span of time, they published fourteen newly brand research journals. Twenty-four national and international conferences were arranged to disseminate the research-based knowledge among the stake-holders in order to serve the society.
Dr Siddiqui further said in its educational pursuits, the university was providing free education to neglected sections of the society that includes disabled persons, prisoners, drop-out girls and transgender group.
Besides this, the university is also providing scholarships to deserving students to ensure that nobody should be left without education because of financial constraints.
To ease the access to education for all segments of society, ‘Accessibility Centers’ were especially set up at their 44 regional offices for visually impaired students.
