Maryam Nawaz Sharif shares rare pictures of her Barat on 24th wedding anniversary

LAHORE – Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday shared rare pictures of her marriage ceremony on her 24th wedding anniversary, putting decades-long rumours to rest.

Maryam, the elder daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was married to Capt. (r) Mohammad Safdar Awan, celebrated her 24th-anniversary in Lahore.

In a series of tweets, Maryam Nawaz shared the pictures of her ‘Rukhsati’ (Barat), in which PM Nawaz is also seen blessing the bride.

“Rukhsati ….. Baap ki duaaon ke saaye main (getting married with the blessings of my father)”, the 43-year-old said in her tweet.

Her wedding anniversary coincides with the birthday of PM Nawaz, who turned 67 on Sunday.

Nawaz was born in Lahore, Punjab, on October 28, 1973. She received her early education from Covent of Jesus and Mary school and pursued her undergraduate studies from Punjab University, and completed a Master’s degree from the same institution.

She is considered to be an important figure in Pakistani politics, being the PM’s daughter. She had also been a chairwoman of the board of Sharif Medical and Dental College.

For quite a long time, it had been rumoured that Maryam Nawaz had eloped in order to marry Capt. (r) Safdar against her parents’ will, and that Mr Nawaz Sharif was not present in her wedding. However, these latest pictures prove otherwise and have put all the rumours about this marriage to an end.
