RIYADH (Staff Report) – The military chiefs of as many as 39 countries met in Riyadh to discuss the foundation principles of Saudi Arabia-led anti-terrorism military alliance of 34 countries that aims to combat all such organisations which are terrorising the innocent, spreading killing and corruption in the world.
Previously in December 2015, Riyadh announced the 34-state alliance comprising of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Turkey, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Gabon, Guinea, Palestine, Comoros, Qatar, Cote d’Ivoire, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Yemen.
A statement released to media after the crucial meeting quoted Saudi Brigadier General Ahmed al-Assiri saying as “the conference was part of previously initiated engagements between member states and none specific task of the military alliance was take up.”
We are at this stage discuss the basic principles of mutual cooperation between member countries, however the upcoming meeting may briefly decide about the probable roles of different states, he further added.
The meeting agreed on the importance of activating the intellectual security against terrorism through coordinating efforts to study the terrorist ideology and consolidate the values of tolerance, dialogue and renunciation of hatred and incitement to violence.
“Chiefs of Staff called for taking all necessary measures and developing policies and standards and preventive legislation to combat the finance of terrorism and stand firm against terrorist financing crimes.
“They stressed the important role of the media in the fight against terrorism by addressing sedition, division, extremism and violence, and to establish the tolerant values of Islam and refrain from promoting terrorism.
Following the meeting military heads, several commanders also held one-on-one meetings with Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, where he emphasized the importance of coordinating the strategic efforts among the Islamic countries in confronting and countering terrorism.
