The constituencies where more women voted compared to men

LAHORE – In a second democratic transition of power, the general polling process ended this week and the official data by Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) shows that there were many constituencies where the female turnout was more than male.

Women took lead over men when it came to voting in National Assembly’s 14 constituencies after general elections 2018 concluded.

These constituencies include: NA-1 Chitral , NA 56 Attock, NA 58 Rawalpindi, NA-64 Chakwal, NA-65 Chakwal, NA-66 Jehlum, NA-67 Jehlum, NA-68 Gujrat, NA-70 Gujrat, NA-71 Gujrat, NA-72 Sialkot, NA-74 Sialkot, NA-77 Narowal, and NA-78 Narowal.

However, the number of women who contested the election from southern Balochistan province was very few and the number who actually won was non-existent. Only one female candidate, Zubaida Jalal, managed to secure victory from Balochistan.

Jalal contested and won the NA-271 Kech and Turbat seat on the Balochistan Awami Party’s ticket.

She beat BNP-Awami’s Syed Ahsan Shah by getting 32,886 votes to his 20,583.

Jalal served as the federal education minister in then prime minister Shaukat Aziz’s cabinet.
