NAB deposited Rs 289 billion to national kitty, claims chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal

LAHORE – Chairman National Accountability Bureau Justice (r) Javed Iqbal claimed on Thursday that the accountability watchdog deposited Rs 289 billion in the national kitty after recovering embezzled money from the corrupt.

The NAB chief held public hearing ‘Khulli Ketcheri’ at the NAB head office in Islamabad where he patiently listened to public complaints and issued directives to concerned NAB officers to conduct the probe of all complaints submitted by complainants on merit.

The complainants appreciated the serious efforts of Chairman NAB in the elimination of corruption across the board and said that the public has trust in NAB’s working under the chairmanship of Justice Javed Iqbal.

According to a communique issued by NAB, the chairman said a major chunk of the recovered money has already been returned to the victims who were cheated by the corrupt mafia.

He continued that NAB was sticking to its policy of ‘Accountability for All’ as country’s progress and prosperity lies in eliminating the corruption, which, he declared was cancer ‘plaguing the country’.

“NAB is disposing of the Complaint verification, inquiries, investigation on merit and in accordance with the law,” added the NAB chief.

Justice Javed Iqbal expressed that the country has been indebted to a staggering $ 84 billion foreign debt but unfortunately nobody knew where such a huge amount had been spent.

He opined that elimination of corruption was not only the responsibility of NAB but each member of society adding that NAB had established the forensic lab, which helped to improve the standards of investigations and inquiries.

“The excellent performance of NAB has been lauded by leading foreign and local organizations including Transparency International Berlin, Germany, World Economic Forum and PILDAT in their reports which are an honour for the country due to NAB efforts,” added the statement.
