LAHORE- Meera jee is in the news these days after the declaration by a family court according to which she was still married to Attiqur Rehman.
On Wednesday, Attiqur Rehman expressed his views while having a conversation with a national channel that “Meera was married to both him and Captain Naveed at the same time — a crime punishable by law in Pakistan.”
“I have Meera and Captain Naveed’s nikah nama (marriage contract),” he said. “My aim is to get her sentenced for polyandry,” he added.
Rehman stated, “Meera neither has moral values nor knows how to converse in English, Meera does not even know how to boil an egg, she could not have provided me with food.”
“We were fighting for the entire two years that we were married,” he said, adding that Meera had demanded that Rehman divorce his first wife.
According to Section 494 of the Pakistan Penal Code, whoever, having a husband or wife living, marries in such case in which such marriage is void by reason of its taking place during the life of such husband or wife, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, plus will be fined in heavy amounts.
Family Judge Babar Nadeem dismissed Meera’s petition that her nikkah to Attiqur Rehman was forged and announced the judgment for the marriage suit which had been filed nine years ago by the film actress.
The judge ruled that, the nikkah nama is not fabrication, and that a nikkah khawan confirmed her nikkah to Rehman.
Till now Meera jee has not yet given any public appearance or response to her husband’s allegations.
