A Qatari sociologist has infuriated people after posting an online tutorial appearing to instruct Muslim men on how to beat their wives.
Abd Al-Aziz Al-Khazraj uploaded the footage to the his YouTube channel, Al-Mojtama, which reportedly shows him guiding men to ‘punish’ their wives in an Islamically permissible fashion.
He is seen in the footage demonstrating techniques on a young boy as he tells the camera: ‘Some people punch her or slap her on the face… That’s not allowed.’
‘The Prophet Muhammad… Look how merciful Islam is. The Prophet prohibited striking the face. He forbade men from beating their wives on the face. Slapping the face, hitting the head, punching the nose – all of this is forbidden. The beating is for discipline.’
In the video, he says that the beating should be light and painless enough to make the wife ‘feel her husband’s strength’.
People have been enraged by the video and have shown their displeasure in the comments section of the video. He isn’t the first Muslim man to share a such a video. There are several YouTube videos advising Muslim men on how to properly beat their wife.
