Rs 40b new taxes not to affect common man: Dar

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the introduction of additional taxes worth Rs 40 billion on the imported items would not affect the common man.

Talking to media on Saturday,  he said the government took corrective measures to recover the shortfall of forty billion rupees revenue

The Minister said additional duties are imposed only upon the imported and luxury items which are not used by the common people.

Ishaq Dar pointed out the government has imposed the additional regulatory duty on 350 items which are only used by the rich.

He said the introduction of additional taxes on the imported items would also help in saving the foreign exchange.

To a question, Ishaq Dar said the number of tax payers had been increased from 700,000 to one million in two years.

He said in November this year the revenue collection recorded 28 percent increase which is a great achievement by the Federal Board of Revenue team.

He said that during next two years the government would focus on creating employment opportunities, industrial and GDP growth in the country.
